BERRI is happy to support Graduate or Undergraduate Students interesting in a study abroad exchange as part of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas program. This Government of Canada Program supports students from Latin America and the Caribbean interested in completing a research term in Canada through a paid research internship. Postdoctoral Fellow - Canada Impact+ Research & Training Award: Climate change Impacts on Northern and Canadian Berries

The
BERRI Lab, led by PI Dr. Lauren Erland, Canada Research Chair in Berry Horticulture, at the University of the Fraser Valley (www.ufv.ca) is seeking one candidate as an institutional nominee for the Canada Impact+ Research and Training Award Postdoctoral Fellowship. We are seeking a motivated, collegial postdoctoral fellow to join the lab on projects in the area of northern and native Canadian berries, food security, food sovereignty, health and nutrition. The BERRI Lab has existing research partnerships both in the Fraser Valley and in the Northwest Territories. The preferred candidate will have experience working with Indigenous Communities, ideally in the Circumpolar North, and have an interest in continuing this work in the Canadian context.

The BERRI Lab and Research Centre (www.berrilab.com) is a research-focused lab which engages with undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral researchers, with the overall mandate of supporting sustainability and resilience of berry horticulture and ecosystems in the Fraser Valley and beyond. Research in the lab spans disciplines including horticulture, metabolomics, in vitro propagation, phytohormones, field studies and community-engaged research. The CFI-funded lab space is newly renovated with ultra performance liquid chromatography – high resolution mass spectrometry (Bruker Elute+ with Impact II MS), plant tissue culture facilities and plant environmental chambers. The BERRI Lab at the University of the Fraser Valley is located in beautiful Chilliwack, BC, Canada, ~ 1.5 h drive from Vancouver, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Stó:lo People.

Graduate Student Opportunities

We do not currently have any open, funded graduate student opportunities in the lab, but please reach out if you are interested in applying for external fellowships like NSERC graduate fellowships, as externally funded students may be supported beyond the current lab grant funding capacity. If you are interested please reach out with a short statement of interest and a CV. Note that graduate students supervised in the BERRI Lab are co-supervised with either UBC Vancouver Botany or UBC Okanagan, and that applications are generally due 8 months in advance of the anticipated start date.
